P

eople Skills.

Successful teams are comprised of individuals that have

exceptional people skills. These individuals have the ability to discuss issues

openly and honestly. If they disagree, they share their point of view respectfully,

without negativity. Being able to give and receive constructive criticism is a sign

of high social and emotional intelligence. Teams that are made up of members

that have strong social and emotional intelligence tend to be more successful.

This is because they have an ability to put the needs of the team above their

individual needs. They check their ego at the door!

L

eadership.

Successful teams have effective leadership that values best

practices, new ideas, and proven processes. All team members, including the

leader, are accountable to the team and its mission. Successful teams utilize

shared decision-making and problem solving.

E

xcellent

Communication.

Clear, concise, honest communication is the

hallmark of a successful team. Individual opinions are valued and constructive

feedback is encouraged. Excellent communication also includes the methods

used to memorialize the ideas and activities of the team. Keeping thorough

notes, which are referred to as “meeting minutes,” is necessary to keep the team

on track and to ensure accountability.
