Rule #1:
You will never get a second chance to make a good first impression.
Remember, the first impressions are lasting impressions.
Target the type and style of dress your potential employer utilizes.
Dress for the job you want and not for the job you currently have or recently had.
Rule #2:
Hiring Authorities state that a first impression is often formulated in the first 12–30 seconds of an
interview!
Prior to the actual interview, practice feeling comfortable with your chosen interview
attire by going out to dinner or wearing it in a public setting.
Don’t be stiff or uncomfortable or it will negatively impact your chances of getting hired.
Rule #3:
If it comes down to spending a little less or a little more to look your best, spend the extra
money; it will be worth it in the long run!

Dressing for Success
Tip!
When going to an interview, you may want to dress similar to the person who is hiring you
because every company or organization or employer has a culture, whether it is conservative
or flashy. If you have the opportunity to conduct an information interview prior to an actual
interview, get the chance to walk into the building, go into their cafeteria, or just stand outside
and see how people dress when they come out of work, do so. This investment in preparation
will provide a competitive edge over the competition interviewing for the same position.
First impressions are extremely important.
The interviewer or employer is going to see you
before you have had an opportunity to open your mouth and discuss your qualifications.
Many studies show that an opinion is formulated about candidates in the first 12 to 30 seconds.
And in the first 12 or 30 seconds of a meeting, what happens? You walk in, maybe you shake
hands, sit down. You probably haven’t even had a chance to say “Hello” or “What a nice
office you have here.”
