Words matter.
Don’t use too many words on the screen. The purpose of
PowerPoint is to capture the main idea or theme. Through your audio or video
presentation, you will explain and elaborate about the words and images on the
screen.
A picture is worth 1,000 words.
PowerPoint
enables you to use SmartArt and other graphics to
convey your messages to your audience. These
features are especially helpful when you are
comparing items or creating timelines.
Clear and concise.
In addition to using clear
and concise language, be cautious about having
too many competing colors and fonts. You want
your page to be interesting, but not distracting.
Also, be sure that your font is readable. Typically,
you don’t want to use font sizes under 18pt on
PowerPoint. Script writing and other fonts with fine
lines may also not be a good choice.
Timing is everything.
PowerPoint has a
feature that allows you to time the length that
your slide is on the screen. This is helpful when you
are recording a presentation that will be watched
asynchronously. You can also manually move the
slides as you create the audio that accompanies
them
Unlike asynchronous sessions that you can attend
in your PJs, attending synchronous sessions are
like going to class, especially when video is
included. Because of this, it is important to be
prepared to participate in the discussion and to
dress and act appropriately.
