Your Essential Marketing Materials:

Resume Time!

It is now time to itemize your marketing materials. While certain aspects of

careering have changed dramatically (for example, Internet job boards,

personality type assessments, etc.) certain aspects remain surprisingly similar.

Much like a brochure or company website, the resume and cover letter

represent your calling card; that is, how you create a first impression in print.

While in the past, the postal service served as the primary means of distribution

(remember the dreaded mass mailed resume!), today, career seekers use email

and employer based websites to distribute their credentials. I am not a fan of

mass-producing your credentials (neither via print nor the Internet) and strongly

advise you to adopt a more targeted campaign aimed at specific employers or

contacts.

One thing is clear:

The creation of the resume serves the valuable purpose

of inventorying your unique and compelling contributions. It is a summary of your

brand and acts as your one-page marketing campaign, a tradition still honored

and recognized in the 21st century workplace.
