Section 15 – The Interview Process

Criteria to Evaluate Before Taking a Job

As far as salary is concerned, avoid any mention of a specific

figure. Let the interviewer be the first to name a salary figure. Be

reasonable in terms of your demands. Research what people in

that industry or organization earn.

Remain open and flexible in regards to compensation. If unsure,

say, “I’m looking for a salary and benefit package commensurate

with what a person of my experience, background, capabilities

and potential would normally obtain” or “What would you

normally pay somebody with my skills and background?” That

way, they are forced to answer the question and you can decide

if it’s in your acceptable range.

In the course of your answers, the interviewer will determine your

maturity level, initiative, if you work well as a team member, how

flexible and adaptable you are, how conscientious you are and if

you’re a hard worker. They’ll be looking at your honesty, sincerity,

how disciplined a candidate you are, any emotional adjustment

and, finally, your professionalism.
