Some people “live to work” while others “work to live.”

These seemingly similar phrases could not be more different! Living to work

implies that you put work ahead of everything else including your family, friends,

outside interests, and even your health and well-being. Working to live implies

that you work enough to satisfy your basic needs, as well as achieve some of

your personal or career goals.

As with most things in life, the perfect balance lies between the two extremes. If

during your entire career you live to work, chances are you will not have the

opportunity to establish meaningful relationships, take vacations, or explore other

hobbies. While you might be financially successful, the toll on your physical,

mental, and spiritual well-being can be significant.

The other extreme is people who work to live.

These people

may have a zest for life and work only to pay the bills. They find meaning and

self-worth outside of their career and do not have a desire to climb the

corporate ladder unless required to maintain their desired lifestyle. While this

attitude may lead to fulfillment outside of the workplace, it can also limit your

promote ability and earnings potential.

Successfully planning for your future can help you to find

the perfect balance between work and family. I can

also enable you to have both a fulfilling career and a

rewarding life.
