Page Background

We seek to maintain a comfort level, which often has been artificially created

by our families, schooling, advertising, peer pressure, or other conformities.

Some people live by the philosophy that they should not attempt to pursue

their career calling because trying and failing may cause them emotional

pain, so why bother? “Do nothing and worry” is the mantra of many 21st

century job seekers.

Barriers are not the enemy; they are our friends! They provide a clear road map

for change and help us to understand specifically what is holding us back.

What are the barriers to making change and adopting a long-term career

plan? In my experience, the 4-key barriers are as follows:

I suggest that in order to change, we must trust our decisions. You cannot fight

yourself over the changes you need to make; you must truly believe they are

necessary and in your best interest. So if we know we should change and it is

necessary to do so to remain competitive in the 21st century workplace, why do

we still resist?

1.

Laziness

:

People find the process of exploring inner passions,

finding purpose, making change and re-inventing themselves

too difficult . . . so why bother?

2.

Anxiety

:

Fear often prevents action while a lack of direction

encourages complacency.

3.

Ignorance

:

I have a job . . . for now . . . so leave me alone!I

don’t have to worry about finding my career calling, right?

Wrong!

4.

Confusion

:

Change is happening so fast, I am overwhelmed,

confused and don’t know where to start. So I do nothing.

The answer is simple . . .

it is

because we possess barriers to making change.
