All Goals Must Revolve Around Your
Purpose
How can any of us possibly expect to find genuine career
happiness fueled by passion, purpose, power, profit and
peace of mind (the 5P’s) if our objectives are unclear?
If you do not have a plan to help you determine what you
really want from your profession and cannot find or are
unwilling to devote the necessary time to the process of
uncovering what you truly value, you will most likely be
destined to a life of regret and wasted talents.
Without a plan, you are relying on hope, and hope is
not
a
strategy.
When planning your career, it is important to look at the
process in
three
stages:
past, present, and future.
How did
you get to this point, where are you now in the process and
where do you want to be?
Most likely, you will not transition from your current
occupation directly into your ideal career calling. There will
inevitably be a progression of well-planned roles leading up
to the culmination of your experience and education. Some
call this a
career ladder
because with each rung of the
climb you are ascending closer to the top. While there may
be a series of job changes, internships, volunteer work, part
time jobs, or continued education in some form, your
ultimate destination needs to be defined.
