What is the purpose of the interview?

Remember, you are there to gather as much information as you can about the

employer, just as they are there to gather as much information as they can

about you. It is a mutually beneficial process.

Regardless of outcome, view every interview as an information-gathering

session, a chance to learn and an opportunity to demonstrate your abilities.

When confident in their abilities, successful athletes, actors and interviewers

can hardly wait to get in that spotlight. You should have the same attitude.

The three purposes of the interview are:

1. To provide the employer with

information about you not already

contained in your application,

resume, or cover letter.

2. To enable the interviewer to

evaluate your personality, attitude,

values, communication skills,

motivations, and interests in terms of

the demands of the vacancy and

their organization.

3. To enable you to obtain

information about that particular

employer.
