Section 16 – Answering Difficult Questions

19. Do you have plans to continue your education?

Many employers, especially large corporate employers, have education or tuition

reimbursement programs. If you decide to go on for additional training and it relates to the job

at hand, the employer may pay for a percentage of your tuition. A common concern is: “Will

that help me or will they feel that if I go back for more education it will distract me from my

performance during the working hours?” The rule here is to do your homework and find out if

it’s a prerequisite to having the job. If you’re already continuing your education, be honest and

tell the employer that you don’t feel that your class time will be a detriment to your job. Restate

that you are a person who is organized and disciplined and your schooling definitely will not

detract from your performance on the job. If you are taking continued education, stress to the

employer or interviewer that this knowledge will help you because it will make you a more

valuable asset to their organization.

Now it’s your turn to answer. Make sure to touch on the suggestions

mentioned in the last paragraph.
