As we close this section on Goal Setting, keep the following concepts in mind:
1. THRIVE ON PRESSURE:
Beware of the wounded tiger - especially if that tiger is
motivated.
2. ESTABLISH GOOD HABITS/ELIMINATE BAD HABITS:
Personal calls, office gossip,
bringing personal problems to the office, distracting co-workers, cutting
corners, fudging the numbers, disorganized, moodiness, excuses, time wasters.
3. LISTEN MORE, TALK LESS:
You have two ears and one mouth, so listen twice as
much as you talk.
4. BUILD SELF-ESTEEM:
In order to succeed, you have to feel good about
yourself. The way to do that is to understand that you deserve success.
Establish a great work ethic and the discipline to maintain it.
5. ALWAYS BE POSITIVE:
The more trying times, the more positive you have to
be!
“What I do best is share my enthusiasm”
– Bill Gates, Microsoft Founder
6. LEARN FROM ADVERSITY:
When failure occurs, step back, examine your role
in the failure, accept the blame and adapt and learn from the experience.
7. LEARN FROM ROLE MODELS
: Emulate traits that you admire and learn from
other’s mistakes.
8. BE VERY PERSISTENT:
Persistence, more than anything else helps to achieve
success. Success is a long-term commitment. Develop a “PhD” attitude: Poor,
Hungry, and Driven.
9. SET DEMANDING GOALS:
We all make excuses for our weaknesses, but if you
don’t conquer them, one by one, they will consume both your time and
energy. This will cause you to miss opportunities. Goals will help you to
formulate plans to eliminate weaknesses.
10. SURVIVE SUCCESS:
Today’s success is often tomorrow’s failure. Maintain
discipline and write down your own secrets to success. Study them. When you
do, you will realize that it wasn’t luck or good fortune, but rather a chosen life-
style.
QUESTION: Does your presence raise the performance of
everyone around you?
