Gender Stereotyping

Did you know that your gender identity develops as a child and with that identity you

acquire gender-role stereotypes?

Gender-role Stereotypes

are beliefs about the

characteristics and behaviors that are appropriate for boys and girls. All societal groups

have expectations of acceptable behavior based on gender. Parents, siblings,

extended family members, friends, religious affiliation, magazines, television, social

media, and other social influences construct these norms from early childhood.

Overtime, we assume these stereotypes as part of our identity.
